This course is intended for beginning and intermediate levels, and is recommended for anyone interested in learning to fit contact lenses or those taking the contact lens fitting certification test. It is recommended that you take the slit lamp course or have experience using the slit lamp prior to taking this course. Ability to use the slit lamp is necessary to properly evaluate the fit of contact lenses.

The student should be able to demonstrate the following concepts:

  • List the different soft toric contact lens materials
  • Describe different ways of making soft toric lenses
  • Describe how to choose a starting lens
  • Describe what types of prescriptions would warrant a soft toric lens
  • Describe how to evaluate the fit of the lens
  • List the steps in using the LARS rule
  • List the steps necessary to clean and care for soft toric contact lenses
  • Describe how to insert and remove soft toric contact lenses

 

This course should take approximately 1 hour to complete.

This course has been approved by the AOA Commission on Paraoptometric Certification (CPC) for continuing education credit for use toward paraoptometric certification renewal.
